Amarnath Yatra resumes from Jammu after 3 days

Jammu: Amarnath Yatra resumed from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp on Monday after it was suspended due to cloudburst near the holy cave shrine three days earlier.
Sixteen persons died in the cloudburst while 40 others are still missing and the rescue operation to locate them is still on. Despite the tragedy, pilgrims have been arriving at the base camp and several other lodging accommodations identified by the government for devotees. On Monday, the 12th batch of 4,026 pilgrims left the base camp in a convoy of 110 vehicles. An official said, “A total of 4,026 pilgrosm comprising 3,192 males, 641 females, 13 children, 174 sadhus and 6 sadhvis left for two base camps in Kashmir Valley this morning. For Baltal route, a total of 1,016 yatries including 767 males, 240 females and nine children left Jammu Yatri Niwas in 25 buses and 10 light motor vehicles whereas for Nunwan (Pahalgam) route, a total of 3,010 pilgrims comprising 2,425 males, 401 females, four children, 174 sadhus and six sadhvies headed from the base camp in 75 vehicles.”
